Miangyang municipality, Located in the north part of Sichuan Province, is 98 kilometers away from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. It was founded in Feb,1985, with an area of 60 sq kms and a population of 660,000.

Since its foundation 15 years ago, Mianyang has persisited in two principle: “Our people are our best resource ” and “The Environment must come first ”,and has stressed that the progress of industrial modernization must go hand in hand with quality and stable living standards. After 15 years hard work , The narrow streets and shabby alleys of old have been transformed into a deautiful modern industrial city with wide streets, shady green trees and fresh lawns everywhere. The city proper has grown from 18 to 60 sq kms, and the population has increased from 200,000 to 660,000. The averge residential area has increased from 5 to 13.5 square meters per capita.

Nowadays Mianyang has a pleasant environment,with air, water, noise and the sewage treatment conforming to national environmend standards. The API is maintained below 50 all year round.More than 80%factories have been basically reconstructed as neat & tidy garden-factories. The rate of green plants cover reaches 35%,and the average green space for every person is 6.1 square meters. Especially in past three years, carrying out the city’s construction and rebuilding on the theme of “blue sky, green earth, clear water and harmonious people”,the blend of human with buildings, natural environment and the social economy has been further improved. Mianyang has been successively awarded the titles of “Civilized City”, “Clean City”, and “Leading Green City” by the Chinese Government.

     Mianyang has become a model for the undeloped city of Western China, in the ways of developing social economy, improving residential environment, the comprehensive utilization &sustainable development of resources, and protecting the environment as we continue to modernise our industrial base.
